Healing Foods

Healing foods... will this give you a better reason to indulge in some wonderfully delicious chocolate? Absolutely! Read on...

Dark Chocolate:
Benefits: Lowers blood pressure, improves heart health, it stimulates endorphin production, which gives a feeling of pleasure and it contains serotonin, which acts as an anti-depressant.

Kidney Beans:
Benefits: Excellent source of thiamin and riboflavin. Both vitamins help your body use energy efficiently, so you won't be nodding off in class or at work.

Garlic:
Benefits: Cut up a few extra cloves into your next recipe of spaghetti sauce or stir-fry. Garlic contains enzymes that can help increase the release of serotonin, which helps you feel relaxed.

Fish:
Benefits: Consuming two 4-6 ounce servings of oily fish (salmon, tuna, trout) each week, will sharpen your mind. Oily fish is high in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's!

Green Tea
Benefits: Helps fight heard disease, cancer, burning fat, lowering cholesterol, prevents diabetes, and staving off dementia.

Chili Peppers
Benefits: Can help in burning fat building muscles. Studies have shown that eating 1 tablespoon of chopped red or green chiles boosts metabolism by 23%!

Kiwi
Benefits: Helps decrease the duration of a cold. One kiwi provides 117% of your daily recommended intake of vitamin C.

Olives
Benefits: Rich in healthy monounsaturated fats which help reduce inflammation, a catalyst for migraines. One study found that the anti-inflammatory compounds in olive oil suppress the enzymes involved in inflammation in the same manner as ibuprofen.

Eating right doesn't mean eating foods that have no taste. It means eating foods that benefit your mind and body.
